The Fool's Errand

I thought I understood
I thought I knew
then a fool came to me
with rosy cheeks told me
i'm a lie
and then he smiled
I started to speak
but his little dog bit me
you aren't a real truth
you know
your just a thought
in a childs eye
and he gave me his hat
dangling of all its bells
little things
he said
little tells
what do you mean to say?
I asked
he laughed hardly
and without a word
he told me
you think too much
and he pushed me
and i fell to the ground
And he laughed again
and his dog yipping all along
He said
even a fool knows you
more then you
He leaned in close and said
don't do
he smiled
pulled two cups from his belt
and handed one to me
see?
it is full with your life
i looked into the cup
but i was confused
it was empty
should i fill it?
I asked
and he laughed again
and then he kicked me
hard
i winced and from the ground
looked up in fear
you have a fools hat
and i said in pain
but you gave it to me
and he smiled
And he told me
you took it.
and with that
his dog bit his heal
and in reaction
he kicked me so hard
i rolled away
and before i fell off the side
of the cliff
I could see his eyes
And they looked so sad
the wind felt good on the way
down
warm
like a winter fire place
like when i was a kid
curled up
thinking
i was safe
And i was
